FRIDAY, SEPT. 30, 2022

Today is 8th grade SOAR store.  Please count your tickets before you come down to the front hallway after announcements.

Hocker Grove Cross Country brought the heat yesterday at the SMSD District Cross Country Meet! All SMSD middle schools were represented at the meet and Hocker Grove XC country did an amazing job of representing our school. Teriana Luster finished 3rd and Madeline King finished 4th in the 1 mile race with both earning medals. The girls 1 mile team also took first overall!! In the boys 1 mile Soren Zaudke took 5th earning a medal, and we also had Carter Middleton and Julian Hernandez with top 10 finishes . The boys 1 mile team took second overall at the meet. In the Girls 2 mile race Sophia Meyer took 9th overall. Great job to all our runners. Your hard work is paying off!

A1 will practice after school today until 5pm. See you in the gym!

All wrestlers report to Mr. Kidder’s room, 28, after school today.

Band Students ~ remember to take instruments and music home today!  We'll meet by the SMN band room around 5pm to eat dinner then warm up with the Marching Bison.

Students – On October 12th students who have NO D’s and F’s and NO ISS/OSS will be going to the movies.  Grades will be pulled on Monday, October 3rd.  Check Canvas and Skyward to make sure you have NO D’s and No F’s.  If you do, work with your teacher on raising that grade by Monday, October 3rd!

Monday is the first Hocker Grove wrestling meet at Shawnee mission North.  Please come and support our wrestlers.  Wrestling starts at 5:00!

The Debate Club will now meet every Monday in Ms. Kirby's room 114. All are welcome! The Debate Club is an opportunity to explore controversial and interesting issues while gaining experience in public speaking and defending arguments. 

The Stranger Things Club will not meet this Monday in Ms. Kirby's room.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 29, 2022

Congrats to the lady eagles who soared to a win against Indian Hills last night in volleyball.  Today is last day for instructional league games! BUMP SET SPIKE!

As we wrap up Suicide Prevention Month, it is important to remember the importance of mental health and asking for support all year round. On Friday, September 30th, wear Purple or Turquoise to bring Awareness to Suicide Prevention.

Also, visit Mr. Toren or Ms. Moore in the MPR, during lunch, on Thursday and Friday to sign a pledge indicating you will ask for help when you or a friend are in need. Pick up resources, as well.

RECYCLING-We will recycle in the Explo hall during 5th our today.

IT’S GAME DAY IN THE GROVE! LADY EAGLES are competing against Indian Hills tonight! BUMP SET SPIKE! Instructional teams have their last game tomorrow- come watch them play starting at 4:15- Bring permission slips to room 34!

Fee Payment Information

We are asking all parents to pay fees ONLINE this year.   Fees will be posted near the end of July 2022.

·         The Online fee payment portal is now open and we appreciate your patience as student schedules are now finalized.    Go to www.smsd.org hover over the “Families” tab and click the link entitled “Pay Fees Online”.  The site can also be found at this link:  https://www.smsd.org/families/pay-fees.   You may also call the Hocker Grove Bookkeeper with Credit Card information to pay fees. 

·         Required fees include:  Instructional Resource Fee ($100.00), ID card ($5.00), and Elective Course fees (Art, Humanities, Industrial Tech classes-Robotics, Design & Modeling, Projects) 

·         Optional fees – Student Activity ticket and Yearbook – if a student does not want or need, these will automatically be deleted from the student’s account if it is unpaid at the end of first quarter.  The online system will allow parents the option to not pay these fees. 

·         KanCare 19 will no longer be accepted to help cover for fees.  For Instructional Resources fee and ID card fees to be waived will depend on Free and Reduced lunch qualifications.    Please contact our bookkeeper, Michele Dirks for help with this.  micheledirks@smsd.org or 913-993-0220 

·         If you need to pay by check, you will need to go to the pay fees online portal to find out your student fees.  Please make your check payable to Hocker Grove.  Mail your check with your students’ ID number to Hocker Grove, attn: Bookkeeper, 10400 Johnson Dr. Shawnee, KS 66203

 

DS BUS TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION (2022-2023)

Check out the DS Busing website: https://dsbuslines.com/  NEW this year, all students must enroll via DS Bus Lines to receive busing. This includes both pay riders and those that qualify as free riders. Emails will be going out to the families and a link will be shared on DS Bus Lines website as well as the SMSD Transportation webpage.

 

School Bus Weather Alerts

If your child rides the bus to and from school, please be aware that at times pick-up and drop-off might be delayed. Consider signing up for the Textcaster late bus notification system, which alerts families via text when buses are delayed. You can sign up for Textcaster here: https://my.textcaster.com/asa/2795. If you have signed up for Textcaster and have confirmed your sign-up, you will receive a text in the event your child’s bus has been delayed.
