Nurse news

Flu season has begun and according to the CDC, getting the flu shot is the best way to protect yourself and your family from the flu and from spreading the flu. Flu shots are available through be your pediatrician or the many walk in clinics throughout the county.

This year, school nurses are working in conjunction with the Johnson County Health Department to track the spread of flu in our community. The health department defines the flu as "fever of 100 or greater, congestion, and sore throat in the ABSENCE OF ANOTHER CAUSE". Per recommendations, students that contract the flu should be excluded for 5 days following the ONSET OF ILLNESS.

It is important that, if your child is sick, you do not send them to school. Doing this only causes them to remain sick for a longer period of time, as well as infects other students.

This is also a good time to remind everyone that, per Johnson County Health & Environment children that are vomiting, have diarrhea, or have a fever must remain out of school until they are symptom free for 24 hours WITHOUT THE AID OF MEDICINE.

Together with your help, we can help keep our children and staff healthy at Hocker Grove.
